Celebrating Black History Month

The sun is shining this week – perhaps to join us as we come together to honor Black History Month, a celebration of the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black individuals throughout history.

At the Community Foundation we have witnessed the positive change possible when we are able to match dollars with talent and opportunity.  Across the country, community foundations play a vital role in empowering Black communities by providing resources, funding, and support for initiatives that address historic inequities and ongoing disparities. Locally, board development programs like the Catalysts for Change Leadership Program, and our creation of the Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund supports inclusive strategies to build a stronger, more diverse and resilient community.

We hope that you will join us in building a more equitable and inclusive future for all.

How You Can Make a Difference

  1. Support Black-Led Organizations – Give to organizations that are led by Black individuals and dedicated to uplifting our region.
  2. Follow the Community Foundation’s social media throughout the month of February as we highlight Black nonprofit leaders who are agents for change in our community.
  3. Feeling inspired? Add to our list by sharing the name of a Black nonprofit leader that you admire on our social media posts! Or make a gift to support their work or to help grow the Foundation’s Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund.
