Mission
The Standish Family Fund, a Donor Advised Fund of the Community Foundation for the Capital Region, works to improve education and the lives of our youth in the New York State Capital Region. The Capital Region is defined as the area encompassing Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Rensselaer counties.

Eligibility
To qualify for a grant, the applicant must be a certified U.S. non-profit tax-exempt organization, as designated by Internal Revenue Code 501 (c)(3), whose work falls within the area outlined in our mission.

The Standish Family Fund may make challenge grants and its grants may be used as matches for other foundations’ grants. Capital campaigns and requests for capital expenditures are accepted. The Standish Family Fund will not give to annual fund drives. The Fund will not give to the same organization in consecutive years, but will consider gifts spread over a specific number of years when appropriate. The Standish Family Fund, as a Donor Advised Fund of the Community Foundation for the Capital Region, does not give to individuals.

Proposals
A Pre-Application Questionnaire is available by clicking here. Pre-Application Questionnaires are due April 14th and October 2nd. If the Pre-Application Questionnaire is accepted, a formal proposal will be requested by the Fund. Please note that the Pre-Application Questionnaire is the only information the Trustees will have to determine if an organization receives a formal application, so please be thorough.

Review Process
Proposals received by April 14th will be reviewed and decided in the month of June. The Fund advisors review proposals received by October 2nd will be reviewed and decided in the month of December. The advisors of the Fund will review and discuss all complete applications. Site visits to organizations with which advisors are unfamiliar are likely. Applicants are notified in writing of the decision made by the Community Foundation for the Capital Region’s Board of Directors, taking into consideration the advisors’ recommendations. Grants are typically awarded for a one-year project, and the grants range between $1,000 and $30,000.

Post-Grant Requirements
The Community Foundation for the Capital Region’s Standish Family Fund requires all grant recipients to submit a six-month progress report and an annual financial report that accounts for grant disbursements. The Fund also asks grant recipients to send a photo that may be used on our website.
