We gather, grow, and grant charitable funds to improve the quality of life in New York’s Capital Region … forever. Since our founding in 1968, we have gathered and grown charitable assets of approximately $35 million and granted more than $24 million to benefit our community.
The mission of the Community Foundation for the Capital Region is to strengthen our community by attracting charitable endowments both large and small, maximizing benefits to donors, making effective grants, and providing leadership
to
address community needs.
The Community Foundation is a public charity unlike any other in the Capital Region. We exist not to support a single organization, but to address the broadest range of charitable issues by building the endowment that serves as a perpetual source of community capital.
We manage more than 240 permanent charitable funds for individuals, families, businesses, and organizations that turn to us to help fulfill their philanthropic intent. The funds are invested, and their income is used to meet the changing needs of our community. Together, these funds and their donors have a far greater charitable impact than they could individually.
To donors, we represent an effective and innovative giving vehicle, one that combines maximum tax savings with the opportunity to make a difference – forever – for those in the Capital Region. To other charitable organizations, each year we’re the source of hundreds of grants whose sole purpose is to improve the quality of life in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, and surrounding counties.
Perhaps most important of all, we’re the link between the two. We understand the charitable dreams of our donors and we’re experts in the concerns of the Capital Region, so we can connect those who care with those who need them most. And because we’re permanent, we sustain that connection For good. For ever. SM
The Community Foundation for the Capital Region is one of more than 600 community foundations in the United States. Together, we represent one of the fastest growing sectors of philanthropy. We also manage nearly $40 billion in charitable assets and, in 2004, distributed $3 billion to benefit a wide range of not-for-profit programs, from health and human services to arts and education, disaster relief, and environmental projects. In cities and towns across the United States, community foundations benefit young and old alike – now and for all time.
